Our Vision & Ethos

Promoting Excellence and Achievement

The vision of Sponsors is that the Academy will promote excellence and achievement - raising the expectations of students and their families, and creating strong links with the local community.

The Academy is an all-ability school with a clear ethos and set of values that is capturing the bringing to life of this vision.

The Academy's ethos statement:

"All our learners are of equal value and deserve to achieve their full potential. This is recognised in both the planning and the execution of all aspects of Academy life."

With a commitment to excellence and achievement at every level, the Thomas Deacon Academy is committed to providing an outstanding learning environment that ensures the potential of all pupils is fully nurtured whatever their background or ability.

The Academy has a clear vision for our students:

  • To create a school where achievement is for all and teaching and learning is the first priority of all members of the Academy community.
  • To be best-of-class, measured against national and international benchmarks.
  • To provide a new organisational, managerial, teaching and curriculum approach, within a technology-rich environment.
  • To create a school with a science and mathematics specialism, fully integrating other aspects such as sports and performing arts into an extended and enriched curriculum.
  • To give pupils access to work-related learning and guidance to enable them to make informed decisions at key stages in their school life.
  • To enable all pupils to learn more about themselves and be better able to make a positive contribution to the community in which they live.
  • To create a team of teaching and non-teaching staff with a reputation for success, providing them with the tools and training they need to get the best from their pupils.
  • To develop strong links with primary schools, colleges of further or higher education and community groups.
  • To develop high aspirations among pupils, enthusing other schools in the city and raising the regional profile of the Academy and Peterborough.
