Raising aspiration, Leading innovation, Inspiring excellence, Broadening horizons
My name is Julie Taylor and I have the privilege to be both CEO and Principal of Thomas Deacon Academy in Peterborough, an academy which provides a good education to nearly 2,500 children and young people aged 7 to 18 years.
We are a vibrant and diverse learning community and our most recent Ofsted (July 2015) judged us as ‘good’ and our GCSE and A level results place us in line or above national averages in a range of subjects.
Yet, that is only part of our story. We believe that our improved outcomes are as a consequence of our values and philosophy. If children are happy, secure and well looked after, then they will succeed. We want them to leave us as young people who have a desire to continue learning, have the skills to be independent and resilient and to have purpose in their lives.
Our Academy is underpinned by three core values: Trust, Discipline and Aspiration. This means that we try our very best to look after our pupils and students by developing strong and trusting relationships between the children, young people and ourselves. We are honest with each other.
Good relationships are vital at all levels in the academy. We try to foster mutual respect and respect for the diversity of our community. This is manifest in the high expectations that we have for appearance and behaviour. In this way, pupils and students show that they are pleased and proud to belong to the TDA family.
We need to build resilience within our pupils and students so that they can learn to overcome the problems that are bound to confront them. Being disciplined means that we never give up. We find that a focus on learning and how we do it significantly contributes to the well being of the children and young people.
Furthermore, we try to ensure that lessons are taught by enthusiastic teachers who will engage and interest the pupils and students. In this way, we give pupils and students a desire to learn more, take on fresh challenges and build their self confidence. Having aspiration means that we want the very best.
In addition, we offer a wide range of extra-curricular activity which enhances the pupils’ and students’ experience of TDA and serves to develop further their awareness of the value of working together for the good of the community.
You are welcome to visit our academy at any time. Please contact us to make an appointment and our pupils and students will be proud to talk about and show you their academy.
I hope that you find the information on our website useful.
Best regards, Julie Taylor
